Article by Abigail Danian for Women Lifestyle
Aside from incorporating a healthier lifestyle, setting new goals and making more time for fitness, many women look forward to updating their wardrobes for the new year. Watch for these trends to evolve and unfold over the course of 2017.
Denim with Patches
Patchwork on jeans or a denim jacket is a fun trend that is guaranteed to stay in style since well-known brands, including Adriano Goldschmied, Hudson, and Free People, have sported them in their fashion lines. The patches make a statement on their own, so try pairing them with a basic top and a bootie or a blazer and a pair of classic heels. I like Miss Me’s “Distressed Patchwork Jean” for $104.50.

Midi Skirts
Both retro and chic, midi skirts are a great go-to piece that can easily be worn for a multitude of occasions. For a special occasion/date night look, pair a pencil midi skirt with a bodysuit and a dramatic choker, or go little more casual and wear it pleated with a cowl neck sweater. Make sure to save this for spring! You will love it with a tee and tennis shoes. Find a great selection at H&M from $20-$40 or try J Crew for fun prints and colors, prices starting at $98.

Loafers
We saw them in the fall and knew they would be trending this spring. I love the idea of a block heeled loafer and jeans with a cool, frayed hem. Loafers can also be worn in the office by being paired with a shift dress or fluted hem skirt. My favorite pair is the “ Marmont GG” by Gucci for $750; however, Chinese Laundry’s version “Anete” is a great option for only $49.

Chic Backpacks
Backpacks are back and they are more chic and trendy than ever! They are convenient, functional, comfortable and the many different designs make them a go-to for anything from hiking to a day in the office. For a professional look, try a structured style like Henri Bendel’s “Gramercy Convertible Backpack,” available in Dark Grey and Medium Blue for $450. I cannot wait to get my hands on Rebecca Minkoff’s “Julian Backpack” for $295; this bag has fun details and is sure to update any outfit. Not fond of the hefty price points? No worries! H&M offers similar styles ranging from $20-$40.

Velvet
We have seen velvet on the runways and at the Emmy’s. The irresistible fabric is soft to the touch and luxurious to the eye. Wear a velvet dress, suit, skirt, choker or loose top that hangs just off the shoulder. Check out Asos for their selection of fabulous velvet tops, priced from $35-$65.
